Greeted extremely warmly by the manager who gave us a run down of the menu and accommodated vegetarian options for me, we looked forward to all that it had to offer. We were given a complimentary bread basket with butter which included a variety of Italian breads.
For appetizers we had the Burrata which was extremely good especially with the bed of cold tomatoes drenched in olive oil that came along with it. It was luscious and very light which made it extremely easy to have the entire portion.
For mains, we had the Margherita Pizza which had a typical Italian wood-fired rustic taste and was marvelous! Made in a special wood fire oven which is almost a 100 years old and brought in specially from Italy, the quality of this Pizza completely justified the love with which it was made.
Next came the Saffron Risotto which was quiet cheesy and one of their specialty dishes. The saffron was strong and the risotto was very Italian. Meaning very al dente. Properly cooked risotto is rich and creamy, but has some resistance or bite (al dente) and separate grains. The traditional texture is fairly fluid, or all’onda (“wavy, or flowing in waves”). It is served on flat dishes and should easily spread out but not have excess watery liquid around the perimeter.
After this, they prepared for me an extremely al dente spaghetti in which the flavours were delicious but i prefer mine slightly more cooked and soft. If you see it from a true Italian perspective, it was cooked to perfection.
The desserts blew our minds away! The Tiramisu was classic and perfection and i finished it within 4 bites 🙂 The mille-feuille had a velvety cream which was beautiful on the tastebuds and fresh raspeberries and blueberries with crisp pastry sheets and was perfect! It tasted as good as it looked.
With tons of vintage flair and good food, this Dubai Old Gem is surely one to explore.
