Local Bites Cafe – Dubai’s much-loved Emirati restaurant reopens at Jumeirah Beach Road

The popular Emirati restaurant Local Bites Café has reopened its doors after a complete makeover at Jumeirah Beach Road this week. The café was a popular hot spot until it was closed down for renovation earlier this year. The Emirati cafe, which first made its debut in 2013, has revamped its interiors with a contemporary Arabic mood, mixed with modern colours and patterns.  The much admired menu has also undergone a makeover with new delectable additions.

We were invited here to preview their new menu and just looking at it before we reached the venue made our mouth water.

We started off with 2 drinks. One is specially sourced all the way from Abu Dhabi and was in flavors of rose, mango and lemon. I had the rose which was a lot like Rooh Afza but lighter. It is a rose syrup drink and delicious and refreshing. The other was an organic cold coffee made with dates rather than sugar and was amazing even though it was organic. Loved how the taste of dates was evident and the simplicity of cold coffee was not overpowered by the dates.

The Salad Trio had traditional favorites like Classic Fattoush, Tabbouleh and a new kind of salad which i have never tried before and that was the Stir Fried Cauliflower Salad. The Fattoush was simple and no fuss, the tabbouleh was delicious with it’s citrus flavors and the cabbage salad was quite exotic. Everyone loved this as it was power packed yet tasty at the same time.

Next came the Meditteranean Platter which consisted of hummus which had a bit of an Indian touch to it and was quite nice, the labneh which was thick and creamy, the falafel which was crispy and very nicely done and grilled halloumi which could have been softer but nonetheless was good quality.

Then came the Pizzatha which was a paratha stuffed with spicy Pizza sauce and honestly extremely tasty. It was very unique and i loved the burst of spices. The oman chips roll with cheese is always a favorite! The mash and potato cheese paratha was again pretty good but i preferred the Pizzatha. It was just too good!

Finally i was served the Falafel Khameer Sandwich. Freshly baked bread which is baked everyday in house came stuffed with golden fried falafel and tzatziki dip and was served with signature Jumeirah Spiced Fries. The fries were really good with spices that are specially made for Local Bites. the dip too was quite appetizing and went very well with both the fries and the sandwich.

They also serve a delectable breakfast spread which comprises of an enticing range of options including the Traditional Eggs Benedict, Baith at Tamait made from fresh scrambled eggs with tomatoes and parsley, the chef’s favourite – Local Bites Ijee made from omlette cooked with green pepper, tomatoes, onion, mint leaves and parsley. One of the best sellers on the menu includes the Jumeirah Platter and Local Bites Platter.

The menu still boasts the Local Bites Café classics like the traditional sweet fried dumpling in date syrup called Lugaimat, or the Emirati cardamom and saffron flavoured pancake in date syrup – Chabab. This also had a paratha stuffed with nutella and strawberries and is deifnitely one of the best Nutella stuffed paratha i have ever had! The best part was that the paratha was crispy and had not turned soggy due to the nutella.

Commenting on the menu, Marketing Manager, Ruba Adnan said, “Local Bites Café was always known for its authentic Emirati cuisine. Staying true to this, the traditional classics will continue to be on the menu with new additions inspired from fusion of different cuisines including Italian and Asian.”

Nutella Paratha made from rich Nutella and fresh strawberries are a strong chef’s recommend.

Spicy Achar Paratha and the Achar Pasta are revived signature dishes. As the name states, these dishes are made using tangy pickle sauce. We didn;t get to try these but i am soon going to go back for the Acar Pasta as i have never heard or experienced a dish like this. The newly introduced Paratha Rolls are exclusively available only at Local Bites Café on Umm Suqeim 1, Jumeirah Beach Road.

Raw coffee is now available at Local Bites Café. The baristas are professionally trained to make the best blend of coffee. One of the specials made organically with no added sugar is the Jumeirah Special, signature cold brew blended with chilled milk and date syrup. The divine milkshakes on the menu include Ferrero, Lotus, Strawberry and Oreo.
