When 2 passionate people search for the true flavors from their culture and don;t find it, they start a homely restaurant which reflects the pride they have for their country.
As stated by the owners, “During our years away from our homeland we always found ourselves missing our native food and hunting for great Italian restaurants, but no matter how good they were, they always lacked that something which wasn’t quite the same as home, the “nonna-seal-of –approval” if you may.
In the hunt for this familiar taste, which we so deeply yearned, my brother Francesco and I started playing with the idea of opening our own place and finally give it that “missing ingredient” that we were looking for.
From this idea Tomato and Basilico was born, where our goal is to replicate the simple and genuine tastes of Italy, and invite you to join in our tradition and have a great family meal with us.”
Invite us they did and the welcome was very warm. The restaurant screams Italian from the little flags all around to the table mats. It was cozy and welcoming.
We got straight to it and ordered the classics.
PENNE IN PINK SAUCE – we asked for a classic penne with pink sauce. The taste was pretty good however I wish it had been saucier. But that is just my preference. This dish was pretty heavy and quite a big portion. The sauce was flavourful and thick and the best part i liked was when the server asked if we wanted the pasta to be cooked al dente or well done. I have never been asked that question before and i was VERY HAPPY that i was given the option. I opted for the well done.
CHEESECAKE AND TIRAMISU – I liked the Tiramisu a lot more than the cheesecake. It was soft and velvety and made decently. The cheesecake was not as per my tastebuds as it tasted more like mousse but my friend liked it.
I also tried the Cappuccino and was happy to know they served illy. It actually really helped me with my exhaustion.
Overall, I loved the service and the quality of ingredients justified the price. You could see how the owners had infused true Italian flavors and ingredients in all their dishes. For those in the area, this place is really a gem.
