I envy those who live around the newly opened Maharaja Bhog in Gardens just ços they are so damn lucky to go savor this deliciousness at any time!!!
For all those who don’t know, Maharaja Bhog has a THALI concept. Thali is an Indian meal made up of a selection of various dishes. It simply means a round platter used to serve food. It is quite a popular concept in Gujrat and Rajasthan.
It’s simple and no fuss. There is no ala carte. All you do is go in and there are already empty plates kept on all tables with tiny bowls.
As soon as you sit, different servers will come fill up your plate with different different items. The menu changes every day and the menu for the day we went on was as below.
Each and every item was delicious and bursting with flavors. I couldn’t believe I had never visited the main branch of this before which is so close to my house.
Once your Thali gets filled up with all the above items, you are ready to feast! Everything that you see in the big circle are the starters and roti’s. The tiny bowls consist of different kinds of vegetables and gravies and different kinds of daal’s. My favorite in thali is always the sweet kadhi.
The servers keep serving you till you ask them to stop. In most cases even if you ask them to stop they will still keep insisting you eat. That’s how you are treated in a thali dedicated place generally 🙂
I was blown away by the variety and how affordable this was. After this meal, I had no space for dinner! From the starters to the dessert, everything was so good! Even the welcome drink and chaas (lassi) to end the deal were delicious.
After your meal, a mouth freshner in the form of a round ball which tastes like paan is given to you. This too was so so good!
I highly recommend this place! Whether you are a thali person or not, it is best to experience this lavishness atleast once.
