Japanese food is an acquired taste for many. It slowly started growing on me when I began experimenting more with it last year.
So by now, I absolutely love it! The mix of ingredients, the classics against the modern twists. I love experimenting with it and i consider it a bonus when i come across restaurants such as Ramusake!
Located at the Hilton DoubleTree in Jumeirah Beach Residence, Ramusake, a London brand owned and spearheaded by nightlife entrepreneur, Piers Adams, presents a new dining concept consisting of a large selection of specially designed dishes that carry the modern ‘izakaya’ dining experience throughout the menu.
Ramusake offers an interpretation of the art of Japanese cuisine through originality and flavour. The multi-faceted venue draws its design inspirations from 1920’s “Show Era” Tokyo combined with a ’Blade Runner-esque’ futuristic twist. Using aged concrete, charred timber and oversized ‘Abacus’ custom light fixtures juxtaposed against neon lights, Ramusake transports diners on a virtual reality journey with a culinary experience like no other.
We started off with some stiff Japanese Whisky, the world famous cocktail STARLIGHT and Japanese Sangrias (which were poured from a mini earthen pot with a tap). I don’t think I need to tell you how happy we were by the end of it all 🙂
As smooth as the whisky was, it is more of a drink for the night and if you love it dry. The Sangria’s were light but do their magic a bit later and are a definite addition when you are here with friends. The Starlight, we were told has won as the best cocktail in a bartender’s championship. This unique drink with an absinthe base was made with pineapple and had a hint of lemon and basil in it.
Sweet Potato Fries – Honestly, the BEST i have ever had! I have had many a sweet potato fry but nothing comes close to how they were here! They were thick fries sprinkled with spices on top and that spice made all the difference! It was a secret spice but made all the difference to the entire dish!
Yasai Nigiri – This Mixed Vegetable Sushi was simple, classic and absolutely delicious! If someone is starting sushi for the first time, I would definitely recommend this!
Ramusake Salad – Crispy Tofu, Shaved Radish, Asparagus, Wafu Dressing. The tofu was soft and the dressing was out of this world! It made this entire salad so delectable and one of a kind.
Fried Truffle and Cheese Dumplings – These will take you to Japanese heaven! Served on a bed of delicious mushroom puree, these dumplings were the best ever! The mushroom puree was unusual and the dumplings were truly one of a kind!
Kinoko Rice – I don’t eat rice too much, but if this was served to me everyday, i would be happy as a puppy. Sprinkled with truffle oil, this risotto like rice had a mushroom base and was out of this world!
Chocolate Fondant – Served with a soft centre, this fondant was delicious enough if not the best I have come across. However, in a group this will be one dish which will finish pretty quickly if you all are chocolate lovers.
Dessert Platter – A platter consisting of mini versions of Japanese delicacies, one must sample this. My favorite in this was definitely the tart.
With such a delish spread, how can you not have great music! And what can be better when it is being sung live by a singer with a voice so beautiful, you have to stop eating and just listen to her. Laura Lopez struck a chord inside us all.
Diners are able to sit back, relax and enjoy an array of creative dishes to a background of signature design accents including a separate Sake Bar & Lounge and Main Dining area featuring a theatrical ‘Robata’ counter to delight guests.
I would highly recommend to spend your afternoons here while enjoying the better weather in Dubai.
