Delhi Darbar – A Legacy

When the first Delhi Darbar had opened in Dubai, I remember a lot of people getting excited, that one of the most famous Indian chains was now going to be serving its delicacies in Dubai.

Since i am a Dubai kid (as in brought up here since i was 3 months old), I didn’t really know the legacy of Delhi Darbar. But i remember eating there and being stumped by the richness of the food. The food stayed true to it’s claims and i thoroughly enjoyed my first experience in their main branch in Karama.

Several years later, a branch opened in Barsha and i was lucky to be invited to dine in it. The food still remained as good, rich and flavourful and even though i’m sure their non veg delicacies would beat the veg ones any day, the vegetarians have a lot to choose from and will not leave disappointed.

We were greeted warmly and our order was taken quickly. The portion sizes are like any Indian restaurant and the food arrived in decent time.

We had:

Chilli Crispy Vegetables (a chinese starter) – I loved this! I love Indian Chinese and this was the right concoction of spices, sauces and crispiness. I so want to go back to try their other chinese dishes.

Dum Aloo – Very rich and extremely delicious, this gravy is a must for potato lovers like me. Everytime time i go to an Indian restaurant i am keen to try this dish as every restaurant prepares it differently. Delhi Darbar did not disappoint and i loved this with the crisp naans.

Dal Makhani – Quite nice, rich and creamy. This dal was flavored well and stayed true to its name.

Breads – Absolutely relished how crispy, buttery and hot the naans were.

Shahi Tukda – This was not my style unfortunately. I prefer the bread of this sweet dish to be crispy.

Mouth Freshner – This gets a special mention as very few restaurants have this mix (which is pictured in the bottom right). It’s extremely delicious and makes your meal all the more satisfying.

I loved my experience and honestly would recommend this place very highly for those who enjoy rich Delhi like food.
